Do you struggle with forward folds?
Do you find it more comfortable to bend your knees while in downward facing dog and when you forward fold?
If so, you may have tight hamstrings.
Prolonged sitting, overuse from running or heavy lifting, or muscle strain or injury are common causes of tight hamstrings. Good news! There are many yoga poses that can help release these muscles and support your practice! Downward facing dog, half splits and pyramid are great poses to try if your fingers long to touch the mat at the bottom of your forward fold. Check out the video below for a short sequence that can help with releasing the hamstrings, and contact me to get started with your customized practice today!
As with any exercise, it's wise to check with a medical professional before engaging in these practices especially if there is an injury involved.
